With remote work becoming our norm Microsoft is here to help improve our user experiance. This months updates aim to create a great environment for virtual meetings and a productive workforce.
Spotlight
Meeting presenters or organisers will now be allowed to lock their video as the main view for all participants. This will in turn help control what the participants see, it should be noted that this is also different to pin participant because that is only for individual cases whereas this is video call wide. This feature will be released some time in September.
Real time presence
There is an update for the accuracy of status so finally people will know if you are actually available for a chat or not. The accuracy ensures that you don’t interrupt people on a call or when they are unavailable to increase productivity.
Call Merge
Call Merge gives you the capability to merge several calls into a 1-1 call or another group call. This applies to Teams VOIP calls and PSTN calls.
Meeting recording storage for areas where Stream is unavailable
Teams meeting recordings are currently disabled for customers whose Teams data is stored in-country, if Microsoft Stream is not available in that country. In this update there is the creation of a admin setting that will allow you to turn on meeting recordings if Microsoft Stream data residency is not yet in country. If the setting is turned on your Teams meetings will be saved to the data center closest to your region.
Visio update for Teams
Visio tabs in Microsoft Teams allow for all users to quickly access their content in a channel or chat. Editing content is available with a subscription to Visio. Teams is also enhancing the web version of Visio, enabling you to view all pages at once, drag and drop to rearrange pages, insert pages, duplicate existing pages and navigate pages with keyboard arrows for easy access.
